So I've got a proposal: Reverse the trend. Start having literary works gum up the horror tales:
Piranha and Prejudice
Freddy vs Joseph Andrews
Scream, Siddhartha, Scream
Zombies On the Road
The Amityville Absalom, Absalom
The Haunted House of the Seven Gables
Night of the Demons and Don Quixote
The Call of Cthulhu and the Wild
The Mummy Meets MacBeth
Uwe Boll's House of the Dead meets Fyodor Dostoyevsky's House of the Dead
You get the idea.
And if you're thinking that there's not much meat to any of these titles, might I remind you that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has one good line (the opening sentence)? If that one joke could launch an entire subgenre, there's no reason that the literary antimatter to that subgenre can't be created to generate a giant literary explosion that wipes both from existence.
