Seriously? - Si, and I like potatoes.
So the Observer, last witnessed apologizing for pedophilia, has now published a vile piece of transphobia (one that, in fact, appears to violate the paper's own code of conduct).

ETA: On closer inspection, it looks to be Guardian sister paper The Observer, maybe? The url still appears as if it's a Guardian piece, but I admit to not understanding the exact relationships between the papers.

Julie Burchill is generally someone whose name makes me shudder, but yes, this time she's pushed me far enough that I've written in a letter of complaint to the editors.

They are sister papers, yes; the Observer publishes on Sundays (and the foul Burchill piece is the Observer's, not the Guardian's) and the Guardian for the remainder of the week. The Guardian bought the Observer in 1993.

Just as you didn't know that the Observer is the Guardian on Sundays, you may not be familiar with Julie Burchill neither. The Guardian bought the Observer in 1993. But the Observer itself has been published since 1791. (The Observer has separate editors from the Guardian.

Burchill is famous for being very loud and very contentious. She's been sued a few times. She's very controversial, but she at least isn't nearly as bad as Jan Moir. I've never been a fan of Burchill's. I far prefer Barbara Ellen's pieces.

You might want to participate in this Indy poll about Burchill's current rant.

I'm curious to see what's in tomorrow's Guardian about it all as the complaints are high on the website...

Says the woman who celebrated when Boulder, Colorado, passed a transgender rights law in the spring of 2000, before she left that city for Britain.

Don't forget the other Guardian-published transphobic (and biphobic and anti-sex work) JB, Julie Bindel.

My guess is there'll be something by Roz or similar before too long, but comments will be pulled earlier than on the latest piece...

*nod* I read it before leaving work today, and I quite liked it.
